Using Posca pens makes it easy to follow along as we draw pumpkins together on rocks.

Pumpkin Painted Rock Step 1: Outline the shape

How to draw a pumpkin on a rock

Outline the shape of the pumpkin with an orange paint pen. I like to start in the middle and similar to how you draw a heart, draw two humps that come out of the center. Instead of tapering to point like a heart, just round it out on the bottom.

Pumpkin Painted Rock Step 2: Fill in (flood technique)

Posca pen flooding paint technique to use on painted rocks

While you *can* fill in your pumpkin by going scribble scribble scribble with your pen, one trick I like to use for filling large areas is called flooding.

To do it, put your pen on your rock and press straight down and then release right away.

This should release a small pool of paint. You can then use a paint brush to spread the paint and fill in the entire pumpkin shape.

Pumpkin Painted Rock Step 3: Brown contour lines

Use your brown posca pen to both outline the orange pumpkin shape as well as add contour lines as shown.

Pumpkin Painted Rock Step 4: Yellow highlight lines

Use your yellow Posca pen to add yellow highlight lines as shown to give your pumpkin some more dimension.

Pumpkin Painted Rock Step 5: Draw stem

How to draw a pumpkin with a curly stem

Use your light green paint pen to draw a stem on the pumpkin. I think it looks cute with a long stem that has a curly cue on top but short stems work, too. You do you.

Pumpkin Painted Rock Step 6: Add stem contours

Use the dark green Posca marker to add contour lines to the stem as shown and outline the edges of the stem.

Pumpkin Painted Rock Step 7: Seal

Use a clear spray sealer to seal the rock before hiding it outside.

If you are using your rock to play the hide and seek rocks game, don't forget to label the back with a Posca pen before sealing (and seal the back, too).
